New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio was in Whitestone Friday, along with a special podium on the sidewalk, to announce funding to replace sidewalks damaged by tree roots, but a confrontation by an angry grandmother sent him scurrying away.
Vickie Paladino, 63, of Queens, was simply driving down the street with her husband when she saw the mayor in the neighborhood. She had her husband stop the car, and got out to ask de Blasio a few questions that he had no interest in answering.
“I want to know why you let your police officers down and our country down by going to Germany and protesting against our country,” she demanded.
“I don’t care about the trees!” she yelled. “Pay your police officers and stop spending it on money to go protest against our country!”
De Blasio ignored her questions and scurried to his SUV to get away, but the media hasn’t ignored her.
Paladino was still asking the same questions in a recent interview after the confrontation.
“Why did you go to Germany? Why did you stand with the communists, the anarchists, the socialists when you’re supposed to be here. Taking care of our business, our police officers.”
In fact, she said she might just consider running for mayor herself!
