At a press conference in Norwood, Mass., on Friday evening, Donald Trump declared his support for New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, saying that Brady is “an honest guy.”
“Do you think Brady should settle with the NFL?” a reporter asked.
“Leave Tom Brady alone, right!” Trump said. “We love Tom Brady. As you know, he is a very good friend of mine. I know Tom Brady. Tom Brady is an honest guy. He’s a great guy. He’s a great champion and winner. Leave him alone.”
The Associated Press is reporting that last-minute settlement talks on Monday between lawyers for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Tom Brady have failed, leaving a judge to decide the fate of “deflategate.”
Federal Judge Richard Berman announced in Manhattan on Monday that both sides failed to reach a deal.
A ruling could come as early as Tuesday as to whether Brady must serve a four-game suspension after an NFL investigation claimed it was “more probable than not” that he was aware of underinflated footballs during the playoffs last season.
Goodell upheld the suspension in July. The NFL Players Association wants the suspension nullified.
